BIOGRAPHICAL INFO

Performances of Andrew’s work include "THE MUSIC OF ANDREW SUSSMAN" (featuring Mary Jayne Raleigh, Jim Van Slyke, and Brian Helman, funded by the PA Partners in the Arts), "RENÉ MARIE SINGS THE MUSIC OF ANDREW SUSSMAN" (two concerts, funded by the PA Partners in the Arts), "STOP THE PRESSES" I and II  (two evenings of original works for cabaret and musical theatre presented by the Washington, D.C. Cabaret Network), CHICAGO CABARET PROFESSIONALS, and the musicals “ABBEY VICTORIA: A MUSICAL DAYDREAM” and “POLLYANNA: A NEW AMERICAN MUSICAL” (both written with playwright Donald Loftus and performed in Equity staged readings in New York City and non-equity performances in Pennsylvania).  In collaboration with playwright Marcus Steinour he has written the musical comedy “A TOUCH OF BOURBON” as well as songs and incidental music for the historical plays “PHOENIX: THE BURNING OF CHAMBERSBURG” and “A LOVE DIVIDED”.  Other works Sussman has written include the short musical “FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS” (about the Olympics, later turned into “THE OLYMPIANS” written with Loftus) and “NELLIE WAS THERE” (in honor of hall of famer Nellie Fox) and a choral treatment of the Dr. Seuss classic “THE CAT IN THE HAT.” His song "Thanks, But I Don't Dance" (written with lyricist Patti McKenny) was featured by René Marie on her CD "How Can I Keep From Singing?” (MaxJazz), and "Free For a Day" and "Thanks, But I Don't Dance" are on her latest CD, "Black Lace Freudian Slip" (Motema Music). Los Angeles based singer Gwen Howard recorded three of his songs on her CD, "Bathe Me in Candlelight".  Andrew’s music was also  used in the dramalogue “10 DAYS UNDER THE CONFEDERATE FLAG,” written by Clayton Moyer and performed in Waynesboro, PA.  The recipient of six grants from the Pennsylvania Partners in the Arts to present his work,  He was Executive Director of the Cumberland Valley School of Music in Chambersburg, PA from 1994 - 2012.

I am the founder the Arts Alliance of Greater Waynesboro (AAGW), Destination ARTS!, Destination INNOVATION, and Music Makers: Our Community Music Center in Waynesboro.
